Guidance for Property Owners

This guide has been prepared for building owners or site owners, with the objective of drawing their attention to the financial, environmental and safety hazards associated with demolition and dismantling; and to provide guidance on how to cope with them.

Demolition and dismantling operations are as diverse as they are numerous.

They range from the demolition of residential and small industrial and commercial buildings to complex, often unique projects in which each stage requires detailed planning and the application of highly developed skills.

The contractors involved can be general construction companies or specialist contractors whose prime functions are demolition and dismantling, such as corporate member companies of the National Federation of Demolition Contractors. It is essential to match the project with a contractor competent and able to do it, bearing in mind suitability and availability as well as cost.
