CPCS Industry Meetings

This is a message received by the National Demolition Training Group from ConstructionSkills:

Since the CPCS card scheme was revised in 2008, ConstructionSkills has undertaken consultations throughout the plant industry to get your views on the scheme.  As a result, we’ve made some additional changes to deliver the flexibility you’ve requested.

Industry Meetings to consult with you
Most of the changes are outlined below but we know it’s important that you have a chance to look at the detail and fully discuss them. So we’re inviting you to an Industry Meeting where we will show you how we’ve acted on your feedback and how the changes directly benefit you and your operators. It’s also a good opportunity for you to give us further feedback.

The new developments
The following changes stem from opinions gained from all over the plant industry. After all, this is your scheme – helping to ensure greater safety and higher standards in plant.

  • More flexible for one-off requests
  • More flexible for overlaps between training and testing
  • Replacing the demolition specialist H&S test
  • Shorter A65 Practical Test
  • More guidance notes and training materials
  • Logbooks at red card stage
  • Review of renewals
  • Raising general awareness
  • Additional red card per category
  • 12 months ‘grace period’ on all expiring cards
  • 12 months red card extension period
  • Raising awareness of S/NVQ with red card holders

The CPCS card - real benefits for you
The CPCS card scheme is important for safety and efficient working reasons. But we do understand that it can be regarded as ‘more paperwork and hassle’ when you’re busy. But there are very good reasons why it makes sense for your business.

  • Plant operators with CPCS cards can work on any construction site in the country – opening up more opportunities for your business
  • The industry is working towards having a fully qualified workforce – CPCS is the only card in the plant sector recognised as part of this
  • As our Area Monitors are on the ground in every part of the country, we offer local help and advice
  • This new review of CPCS ensures it fits with new CDM regulations; right now, it’s the only card to help you meet your obligations under CDM ACoP
  • CPCS is the only Grant supported scheme
  • Our Test Centres can often help you access further funding to keep costs down
